GHOST NIGHT APPLICATION

What is it?

HAUNT is a one-day festival presented by Poltergeist at The North Wall Theatre & Arts Centre, Oxford. (More Info: https://www.thenorthwall.com/whats-on/haunt-2019/ )

Ghost Night is a free scratch performance which showcases the work of four performers/companies, giving them a chance to try out new material or ideas. Each performer/company will have a 10-12 minute slot.

 

When is it?

HAUNT Festival is the 20th July.

Ghost Night runs from 6pm – 7pm.

 

Important Dates:

Applications Open: Friday 26 April

Applications Close:  Fri 31st May

Notification of Outcome: Fri 7 June

HAUNT Festival: Saturday 20 July

 

What We’re Looking For:

Scratch performances of 10-12 minutes by solo performers or companies which showcase a risky idea that would benefit from being tested in front of a live audience. This could be an excerpt of a longer piece or a first run at an idea.

HAUNT Festival provides a warm and excited audience who will have the opportunity to give feedback via a short survey.

 

 

What do you get?

- 12 minute performance slot as part of Ghost Night

- £25 travel compensation (per company)

- Free attendance at all other HAUNT events. This includes:

          - Afternoon workshops: two workshops by leading theatre practitioners. Last year's workshops were delivered by 

            Rachel Mars and Iron Shoes. This year's workshops will be announced shortly.

          - Art Heist by Poltergeist (preview)

          - BOAR by Lewis Doherty (preview)

 

 

What the day looks like:

 

Rehearse & Tech: 10am – 12pm (30 mins rehearsal, 30 mins tech for each performance)

Break: 60 mins

Workshop 1: 1pm – 2.30 pm (90 mins)

Break: 30 mins

Workshop 2: 3pm – 4.30pm (90 mins)

Break: 30 mins

Call Time: 5pm

Ghost Night: 6pm (60 mins)

Art Heist by Poltergeist: 7.30pm (60 mins)

BOAR by Lewis Doherty: 9pm (60 mins)

 

 

Rehearse & Tech:

Between 10am – 12pm, each company will have 30 minutes of rehearsal time in the Dance Studio, and 30 minutes in the Theatre to try out the space and tech. See example below.

If these timings don’t suit, we have some ability to accommodate alternative rehearsal/tech times. Please email charles@poltergeisttheatre.com with questions.

 

Tech:

Unfortunately, due to the tight scheduling of the day, we are only able to offer limited tech, particularly lighting. These lighting states will be available:

o Cold wash

o Warm wash

o Black out

o Centre spot, stage left spot, stage right spot

We apologise if this set up does not allow you to be as ambitious as you planned.

Operating:

If you would like to operate your own sound/light queues, you’re welcome to. Otherwise, either a member of Poltergeist or a North Wall technician will operate.

 

Accessibility: 

We aim to make this event as accessible as possible. The North Wall is fully accessible both front and backstage. Dressing rooms include showers and toilets accessible by wheelchair. If you have any questions about access, please contact charles@poltgergeisttheatre.com.
